The Community Integration through Cooperative Education (CICE) program is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities or significant learning challenges. In most cases, there are no other post-secondary educational opportunities available to them.
The program provides students with an opportunity to experience college life and to enhance their academic and vocational skills by taking regular college classes modified to fit their academic abilities.
They receive support including:
Students access courses in many program areas (based on seat availability). Learning facilitators also provide students with support in the classroom and via weekly tutorials.
Each semester, CICE students take academic courses with modified curriculum in a selected area of concentration as well as programming common to all CICE students. Field placement experiences (unpaid) that enable them to develop vocational abilities are also an integral part of the program. Successful completion of all courses and the field placement requirement results in the student graduating with an Ontario College Certificate.
